Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is recognized as one of Nepal’s national heritage sites. It is perfect for those who love to observe wildlife. Historically, it was a popular location for wildlife hunting. Chitwan National Park is home to more than 68 species of mammals, 554 bird species, 56 species of herpetofauna, and 126 species of fish.

The elephant safari is one of the best ways to spot wildlife up close in the park. Since elephants can approach other animals without being noticed, visitors can get as close as one meter to the wildlife. During the safari, you are never alone — the rider sits in front, and you are accompanied by professional guides and naturalists throughout the trip.

Another way to see wildlife in the park is by jeep safari. You will sit in the back of an open jeep to spot wild animals such as Bengal tigers and one-horned rhinos. The driver will stop at various points to show you places and animals, giving you excellent photo opportunities. The trek guide will provide detailed information about the environment and wildlife.

Chitwan National Park’s second major attraction is the elephant breeding centre. Established to protect the endangered elephant population in Nepal, this breeding centre is one of only two such facilities worldwide. Visitors have the chance to see elephants with their calves and learn about conservation efforts to increase their population.

Additionally, visiting traditional Tharu dance performances at the cultural centre offers a deep experience of the distinctive culture and traditions of the Tharu community. These dances, performed with long and short sticks, represent various festivals and ceremonies.
